Fade In
You wake up, the sun hits your eyes and you enter the world. Within seconds you forget your dreams and all of the hallucinations from the night before. You get up, move around. You get something to drink, eat, exercise. The sun shines through your window. You go outside and feel the air, the opportunities. You like the warm weather.
It’s like you woke up from a dream that you forgot and it’s your job to understand where it all came from and how it’s all working. You start to put the pieces together. You look at photos of yourself, your life, the places you have been, the people you have known, the food you have eaten, the cities, monuments, museums, the sights you have seen, the oceans you swam in, the mountains you climbed.
Every photo you look at invokes a memory for you. When you show it to someone else, they are unable to feel what you felt when it was taken. They don’t have the same memories that you do. There is something contained within you that is inaccessible to the outside world and that will leave with you when you do. This is your first clue. You are experiencing something.
You are curious. You look around more and try to understand more things but everything is elusive. You don’t know how it got here. You don’t know how your car engine works or how electricity is generated. You’re curious, so you try to understand. You look into philosophy, physics, and mathematics. The deeper you look, the more evasive everything becomes. There is really something mysterious built into the very foundation of reality.
Everything keeps moving around you. There is something within you that has pulled you in every direction you have ever gone in. There are things you can’t help but think and do. Even when you stop, the world does not.
You step outside and look at the midday sun. Your skin is exposed and you do not wear sunglasses. You are activating a signal within you. You rest like a lion and then strike like a cobra. You are an animal, regulating your testosterone, estrogen, and progesterone. You are not aware of it but you are doing it anyway. You are now boosting your pheromone production. Your heart starts to beat faster. Your muscles feel stronger and more limber. You are signaling to your body that you are ready for war. You like competition. You like to be a part of a team, and you also like the idea of being on your own. You have friends and you have enemies. You have natural allies and adversaries. You know who they are. You have always known this to be true.
You tune everything out. You learn to be concise with your ideas. This saves you and others time. Time is the most precious valuable asset you have and your style isn’t benefitting from being overly verbose and drawn out. Your style in everything you do is a reflection of your thoughts and your life.
You learn to absorb and radiate energy, physical power and life force. When you increase your liveliness you think clearer thoughts, you move more intentionally and feel more awake. You are more efficient in everything you do.
The road opens up in front of you and for the first time in a long time nobody knows where you are. The cities fall behind you and the land takes over with indifference to your ambition and you pass through towns and gas stations and warehouses. You drive through the night and the trees come and go and you are free again standing at the end of the desert. You learn the country and the space, its scale, its loneliness, its beauty. You think about what has consumed you and you think about your life and its secret colors and about the places you went and what you loved and hated and all the things you were.
The day is over. It’s night again. The cold sets in and tomorrow will be a new day full of new challenges. It’s the same way it’s always been. It’s the same way it always will ever be.
